The Change Canada Charitable Foundation’s Holiday Fund Program

Franklin D. Roosevelt’s quote is always worth reading however this time of the year his words are even more powerful. Change Canada's Holiday Fund Program has been developed to provide you, your family, friends or firm with the opportunity to make a difference to small charities whose work makes a real difference in the lives of individuals from Inuvik in North West Territories to Marystown Newfoundland to inner City Montreal.
The Holiday Fund features 13 different projects, one from each province and territory. The projects you can support have been identified the most pressing need these organization have right now. All the money you donate goes to the project. Pick a project, pick a province and make a difference!
A) Sheltering those in need.
This is an opportunity for you to give one or two gifts to L’Arche Communities one on each coast.
1) Wychogoma Cape Breton Nova Scotia 
The L’Arche community located in Wychogoma near Baddeck on Cape Breton Island is in the midst of developing a Café and Bakery. The objective is to provide their residents opportunities to work and earn and living while providing delicious coffee baked goods and food to their customers. L’Arche needs to equip their kitchen so we are asking you to donate so they can purchase equipment including mixers, blenders and other baking equipment. The goal: $1,500.
2) Comox, Vancouver Island BC 
The new L’Arche community in Comox is located in a home that needs some major renovations ncluding widening doors, changing round doors knobs to levered ones, better windows and larger bathrooms. Your donation will help L’Arche Comox change out all of the home’s door handles from round handles to the lever type. The cost to achieve this part of the renovation goal is $1,500.
3) Tuktoyaktuk and Inuvik’s Women’s Shelters Beaufort Sea in North West Territories 
Imagine sleeping in your home with no heat in January. In mid November the temperature is already down to --30’C. This women’s shelter spends over $100 a week to pay its heating bill. You can help them defray this critical need by helping them get through the next 4 months. The goal $1,600. The women’s shelter in Tuktoyaktuk needs end tables, lamps and new bedding. You can help them acquire these items by helping us reach our goal of $1,000.
4) Piwapan Women's Centre, on Lake LaRonge Saskatchewan 
The Piwapan Women;s Centre told us their most pressing need was a new fridge with a bottom freezer for their kitchen. A 21.5 cu ft model in fact. You can help make this a reality: The goal $2,100.
5) Grace Sparks House Marystown Newfoundland 
The Grace Sparks House in Marystown highest priority is the replacement all of their bedding. This includes sheets, blankets, quilts, pillows cases and pillows. The objective: $1,900.
B) Nutrition and food.
6) Meals on foot in Inner City Montreal Quebec 
A very unique youth lead charity called Soulement Roulant has been delivering meals to elderly people and others in need in Inner City Montreal not with cars but on foot and or on bicycles. The volunteers deliver these meals insulated custom designed backpacks. The ones they have now are on their last legs. Your donation will help replace all ten packs at $300 a piece. Objective $3,000.
7) Help feed over 260 people a day in Fredericton New Brunswick 
The Fredericton Community Kitchen serves on average over 260 individuals at each mealtime. Their customers get nutritious freshly prepared food. Like all eateries storing and serving their food in the right equipment is essential. The kitchen needs a new cold table. This is an essential piece of equipment. Our objective for this table is $2,100.
8) Sandwiches can make a real difference. Spread the Love Hamilton Ontario 
The success of the Eva Rothwell Centre’s afterschool program is partly due to the sandwiches that are available to the students. A chapter of Spread the Love a youth directed NGO make and deliver the sandwiches . The volunteer students making the sandwiches to replace their Tupper ware bins, disposable tablecloths, et al that support this valuable program. You can help by helping us raise $800.
C) Youth Programs
9) Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta: Fort McMurray Alberta 
Girls Inc is located in Ft McMurray however its programs for girls and young women are delivered all across the Wood Buffalo region. The program helps over ____ clients a year. Girls Inc need to redesign their web site in order to be even more effective. Our objective, is $2,500.
10) Inner City Winnipeg: Manitoba 
Songs for Africa is a unique Manitoba NGO that has developed a very successful approach to helping Child Soldiers coming out of the jungles of the Congo to begin their recovery using music and art to help these young girls and boys whose guns many times are far larger than they are rebuild their lives. Based on their success in the Congo the group wants to bring their models to at risk and traumatized youth inner city Winnipeg and other remoter communities. They need 3 Mac Books to support some very cool music equipment they have just received. The objective is $2,200.
11) Nasivvik High School Pond Inlet: Baffin Island Nunavut 
A few years ago Change Canada helped the Nasivvik High School add a Yamaha organ to its orchestra. The orchestra continues to enrich the lives everyone in the community not just the students. The school is in desperate for gym equipment for its recreation programs. Simple things like 2 hockey goalie sticks, 2 plastic benches, X Country ski packages etc. Our objective $2,200 .
12) Daycare and to Adult Learning: Abegweit First Nation/Lennox Island PEI 
Books for infants and toddlers , textbooks, chairs and teaching soft –ware are core tools for day cares and schools. But the basics are falling short at The Abegweit First Nation School and the Lennox Island Daycare. You donation will help achieve our objective of $2,600. 13) Arts make a difference, Youth of Today Society Whitehorse Yukon The Youth of Today Society plays a critical role providing programs for Yukon’s Youth at Risk who find themselves living in Whitehorse. Whether providing meals or arts or job training. Arts play a tremendous role in the Society’s programs. Your donation will help the young people restock their arts supplies. Objective $2,800.
